Series 66 guide

How long to study for the Series 66?

Most people need about 60–80 hours over several weeks. It combines two exams' worth of material — here's a realistic plan and how to tell when you're ready.

A realistic range

The Series 66 is 100 scored questions over 150 minutes, and you need 73 of 100 (73%) to pass. It combines the Series 63 state-law material with the Series 65 adviser content, and it takes the Series 7 as a corequisite. That breadth is why most candidates land in the 60–80 hour range over several weeks — higher if the economics and portfolio-theory topics are new to you.

A sample 5–6 week schedule

  • Weeks 1–2: Work through lessons and easy practice across economics, investment vehicles, and portfolio theory to build a base.
  • Weeks 3–4: Shift to heavy practice. Concentrate on the heavily weighted law, ethics, and fiduciary topics plus your weakest quant areas, and let adaptive practice resurface what you miss.
  • Weeks 5–6: Full-length, timed mock exams. Review every miss, drill remaining weak spots, and only sit for the real exam once your mock scores are consistently at or above 73/100.

Practice more than you re-read, space your sessions, and build the plan around your exam date — that's exactly how Finance Exam Pro is designed to work.
