The Series 99 fee, up front

The Series 99 (Operations Professional) exam fee is $100 as of 2026, paid to FINRA when you enroll. To sit for it, you must be associated with and sponsored by a FINRA member firm, and it's taken alongside the SIE as a corequisite. Fees change, so confirm the current fee with FINRA before you register.

What the Series 99 actually costs

Who pays it: since the Series 99 requires sponsorship by a FINRA member firm, that firm usually covers the fee — so your out-of-pocket is often $0.
Check the waiver first: FINRA waives the Series 99 for people who already hold certain other qualifying registrations, held within the prior two years. If you qualify, you may not owe the fee at all — confirm directly with FINRA before you register.
Retakes: you pay the full $100 again for each attempt, on top of the required wait between tries.

The real cost is failing

The $100 fee is small compared to the cost of failing: another $100 retake, a mandatory waiting period, and delay in getting registered. That's why good Series 99 prep pays for itself the first time.
