Series 7 cost

How much does the Series 7 exam cost?

As of 2026, the Series 7 exam fee is $395, paid to FINRA at enrollment. Here's who actually pays it — and why that fee is the smallest number that matters.

The Series 7 fee, up front

The Series 7 (General Securities Representative) exam fee is $395 as of 2026 — raised in 2026 — paid to FINRA when you enroll. The Series 7 requires sponsorship by a FINRA member firm and is a corequisite with the SIE. Fees change, so confirm the current fee with FINRA before you register.

What the Series 7 actually costs

  • Exam fee: $395 (as of 2026), paid to FINRA at enrollment.
  • Who pays it: because the Series 7 requires firm sponsorship, the sponsoring broker-dealer usually covers the fee — so your out-of-pocket is often $0.
  • Retakes: you pay the full $395 again for each attempt, on top of the required wait between tries. This is the priciest FINRA rep exam to fail.
  • Also budget the SIE: the SIE corequisite carries its own $100 fee as of 2026. Optional prep for either is extra.

The real cost is failing

At $395 a sitting, the Series 7 fee is small compared to the cost of failing: another $395 retake, a mandatory waiting period, and weeks of lost time on one of the longest, broadest exams in the industry. That's exactly why good Series 7 prep pays for itself the first time. Not sure the Series 7 is the license you need? Check the license guide or compare every exam's cost.
