What the exam covers
The Series 6 focuses on the packaged products a limited representative can sell — mutual funds and other investment company products, variable annuities, and variable life insurance — along with the securities rules, customer suitability, and account handling that go with them. It is a narrower license than the Series 7, which covers most securities products.
Before you can take it
The Series 6 has the SIE as a corequisite and requires firm sponsorship. Not sure how the two exams relate? Compare the SIE and Series 6. Many reps also register at the state level, which usually means adding the Series 63.
