SIE guide

How long to study for the SIE?

It depends on your background — but for most people, a few weeks of consistent studydoes it. Here's how to plan it realistically.

What drives your timeline

The SIE is 75 scored questions in 1 hour 45 minutesand covers industry fundamentals — products, risks, trading, and regulation. How long you need depends on three things: your prior finance exposure, how many hours you can study per week, and how well you retain what you review. There's no single “right” number, and we won't promise one — but a few honest guidelines help.

Finance background
~1–2 weeks

Reviewing familiar material and drilling gaps.

Some exposure
~2–4 weeks

Steady daily practice with targeted review.

Brand new
~4–6 weeks

Building concepts from the ground up.

These are general ranges, not promises — your pace and consistency matter most.

Study smarter, not just longer

  • Practice daily in short blocks. Spaced repetition beats long cram sessions for retention.
  • Review every miss. Understanding why an answer is wrong is where real learning happens.
  • Take timed mock exams. They tell you when you're genuinely ready — not just when you feel ready.

Finance Exam Pro builds a plan around your exam date and available time, then adapts as you go — so your weeks of study land where they matter.
