A realistic range
The Series 65 (the NASAA Investment Adviser law exam) is 130 scored questions over 180 minutes, and you need 92 of 130 (about 71%)to pass — NASAA lowered that requirement to 92 effective June 12, 2023. There's no sponsor and no SIE required. The difficulty is breadth: economics, portfolio theory, product analysis, and law all in one sitting. Most candidates land in the 50–70+ hour range over several weeks, with newcomers to finance at the higher end.
A sample 5-week schedule
- Weeks 1–2: Work through lessons and easy practice across the big areas — economics, investment vehicles, and portfolio theory — to build a base.
- Weeks 3–4: Shift to heavy practice. Concentrate on the heavily weighted law and ethics section and your weakest quant topics, and let adaptive practice resurface what you miss.
- Week 5: Full-length, timed mock exams. Review every miss, drill remaining weak spots, and only sit for the real exam once your mock scores are consistently at or above 92/130.
